In a sports fan’s fantasy, Venus de Milo rests her foot on a ball, one can speculate endlessly, but we will never know if this is the case.
Similarly Maryna Tomaszewska’s exhibition alludes to football and the seemingly democratized and transparent system that is supposed to govern it – but just as in art, the games leave much to be desired in terms of playing without fouls and own goals.
Money, status, ratings and counting the fan base – sounds familiar? This is one way you can understand the context of Maryna’s exhibition which focuses on numbers, statistics, algorithms and sponsorships, all well known to the art world.
With both disciplines relying on spectacle where the human being is the central figure, the question remains – is it really so?
